First Lady Guest Speaker at Eastside’s “Reading Rally�

Eastside students were in for a big treat Wednesday. The First Lady of Arkansas was the guest speaker at Eastside's “Reading Rally.”

This summer, students read 217,457 minutes, earning them the title as the number one school in Arkansas in the 2015 Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. First Lady Susan Hutchinson is a Scholastic Reading Ambassador and spoke to students about why reading is so important.

Mrs. Hutchinson even helped award medals to the top readers in each grade. Melissa Freeman, the Scholastic Representative also presented the school with a banner congratulating students on their accomplishments.

After the rally, Mrs. Hutchinson spent time with a group of students in the media center. She even read a book to them.

Eastside Elementary and the Cabot School District would like to thank First Lady Susan Hutchinson for being our guest at the “Reading Rally.” We would also like to thank the Cabot Freshman Academy Drum Line and Cheerleaders for performing at the rally. Our little ones really look up to you!

The school will be listed in the 2016 Scholastic Book of World Records and will receive a special personalized plaque to commemorate the students' summer reading achievements.
