National School Nurse Day: May 11, 2016

May 6, 2016

The Cabot School District is very fortunate. We have 18 school nurses with a full time RN on each campus.

National School Nurse Day is Wednesday, May 11, 2016. The principal goal of the school nurse is to promote physical, mental, emotional and social health among all students.

In addition, the school nurse promotes health and wellness by:

  • Conducting state mandated screenings which include vision, hearing, scoliosis, height & weight

  • Provides assessment and first aid to students who become ill or injured

  • Communicates with parents/guardians regarding illness, injury, behavioral changes and makes referrals as necessary

  • Develops and implements individualized health plans

  • Develops emergency plans for students with life-threatening health conditions

  • Educates school staff about health matters that affect students and/or staff

  • Collaborates with other school professionals, parents/guardians and the health care tem

  • Provides health counseling to students as needed, on an ongoing basis

  • Administers daily medications

  • Oversees all health procedures/treatments for students

  • Maintains student immunizations as required by state law

These are just a few of the many, many things school nurses do each and every day. Please take time to honor your school nurse!

Thank you: Vonda Morgan RN - Nursing Coordinator, Melinda Gardner RN, Julie Miller RN, Jamie Eichler LPN, Susan Covington RN, Jamie Freeman RN, Leslie Mullins RN, Nicole Weathers RN, Darlene Weatherley RN, Jennifer Bivins RN, Karen Frey RN, Lia Bell RN, Kay Conley RN, Kim Phillips RN, Jennifer Barnes RN, Danna Riley RN, Penny Garner RN, and Amanda Kincade RN
