ADE Commissioners Visit ACE Students
January 20, 2017
Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner Johnny Key and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mark Gotcher made a special visit to ACE recently.
ACE or the Academic Center of Excellence is the Cabot School District's award-winning conversion charter school. The school's charter was just renewed for another five years.
Several students were given the opportunity to have lunch with Commissioner Key and Deputy Commissioner Gotcher, as well as several members of the Cabot School Board. They shared their stories on how ACE is helping them succeed and graduate with a Cabot High School diploma.
ACE provides a unique opportunity and learning environment for 7th-12th graders. Students attend ACE just three days a week during a required window of time. The curriculum is self-paced, but teachers/advisors are there to help keep students on track.
Some of the students shared how ACE allows them to continue their education but also gives them time to work and help support their families.
Commissioner Key and Deputy Commissioner Gotcher were very impressed with the students, staff, facility, and program. They even received a quick knitting lesson from one of our students. As a service project, these students participate in "Knitting for Noggins," a program at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Thank you AR Education Commissioner Johnny Key and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mark Gotcher for taking the time to visit our students.
