CHS Students Honored at Kiwanis Honors Banquet 2017

May 5, 2017

It was a big night for many Cabot High School junior and seniors as they were recognized by the Cabot Kiwanis Club at the 24th Annual Honors Banquet.

A room full of proud parents filled the Cabot Junior High North cafeteria. Christina Munoz-Madsen served as guest speaker.

Munoz-Madsen is the associate vice president of communications, public relations and marketing for the University of Central Arkansas. She made the switch from television news to higher education in March 2014. Prior to joining UCA, Christina spent 11 years as an evening anchor for KATV Channel 7.

Juniors and seniors who have maintained a 3.5 grade point average or higher were recognized and several scholarships were awarded at the banquet. Two scholarships are given in memory of past presidents, Gail Carpenter and Mike Flowers, one given in memory of Lane Whitaker, past present of the Cabot Key Club, and one in honor of Jim and Maxine Thompson for their on-going and faithful service to the Cabot Kiwanis club and Community.

Congratulations to the following:

Jeanna Nickel – Lane Whitaker Scholarship - $1,000

Julie Hill – Mike Flowers Scholarship - $1,000

Lexi Robertson – Jim & Maxine Thompson Scholarship

Mattingly Bartole – Gail Carpenter Scholarship - $1,000

A special group of students also worked hard to provide a deserving senior with a scholarship. The Magness Creek Elementary K-Kids (Kiwanis Kids) raised money by having fundraisers throughout the year. At the banquet, they presented senior Blake Mitchell with a $1,000 scholarship.

The kids said they looked up to these honor students. They believe investing in them is investing in their own future.

Thank you to the Cabot Kiwanis Club and K-Kids for supporting our students. Also, thank you to the CHS National Honor Society and Key Club for serving the meals and Kiwanis members for helping with dinner as well.
