Student-Athletes & Coaches Recognized at All-AR Preps Banquet

June 23, 2017

Some of the best high school athletes and coaches across the state were honored recently, at the fifth annual Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Preps Award Banquet, including numerous talented Cabot High School athletes.

Head Baseball Coach Ronnie Goodwin received outstanding Coach of the Year! Coach Goodwin coached the Cabot Panthers to their first state title in the program's history. Cabot finished 25-7 overall and the Panthers captured the 7A-Central title by going 13-1.

Cabot athlete Connor Gaunt also received 2017 All-Arkansas Preps Outstanding Boys Golf Player of the Year. As a shophomore, Connor helped his team win the overall golf tournament this year. During the overall tournament, Connor shot an even par 72, which included hitting two 25-foot putts for birdies in the first two par-3 holes he played. Connor was also named the 2016 Wendy's Golf Player of the Year!

Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmit Smith was the guest speaker for the event which was held at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.

More than 350 athletes and coaches were honored in tweleve different sports for the 2016-2017 season. Recipients were chosen by Democrat-Gazette staff members, with nominations from state coaches.

Congratulations again to all our Cabot athletes and Coach Goodwin. We are very proud of all your accomplishments!
