Congratulations To Our 2018 National Merit Semifinalists

September 8, 2017

Cabot High School is proud to announce six seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter this program by taking the Preliminary SAT and by achieving a particular score on the exam. There are around 1.5 million students that participate in this exam every year. Of those students, about 16,000, or 1% of the total graduating seniors, have scores which qualify them as Semifinalists.

For Arkansas, the selection index was a score of 215 out of a possible 228. There are 137 Semifinalists in the state this year, and 6 of those are from Cabot. Of the 45 schools that have NMSQ students, Cabot's total places them 6th in the state.

Congratulations to these six CHS seniors:

Melissa Elliott, Coordinator of Gifted and AP Programs stated, "We are certainly proud of our National Merit Semifinalists. They are not only outstanding scholars, but they are also active, engaged members of our community. Their success is a reflection of strong parental support as well as the dedication of our district's teachers from kindergarten thru 12th grade. These students' futures are promising, and we look forward to hearing more about their accomplishments as they move on to post-secondary education. They will be recognized by the Cabot School Board of Directors at their meeting on Tuesday, September 12th."
