November 1, 2017
Cabot Middle School South 5th graders traveled back in time to the pioneer days at the annual Frontier Festival on Friday, October 27th.
Throughout the day, 5th grade students experienced hands-on learning provided by reenactors and specialists from the Early Arkansaw Reenactors Association, the History Helpers, the Mississippi Valley Living History Program, and other reenactors.
The school campus was transformed to early 1800s Arkansas with the authentic log cabin in the front serving as a backdrop. Students and faculty dressed in pioneer attire. Students participated in activities such as:
Livestock & Animals, Flint Knapping, Music Men, Dutch Oven Cooking, Survey Louisiana Purchase of 1803, Bartering, Sing Along & Instruments, Fur Trapping, Trader's Row, and Mississippi Valley Guys.
The project is supported in part by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
