CHS Students Earning College Credit Before Graduation

May 25, 2018

Author: Seth Allen

Cabot High School is committed to preparing today's students for tomorrow's opportunities.  That is why we have partnered with ASU-Beebe to offer two concurrent credit courses.

Concurrent credit courses allow seniors to earn college credit before they even graduate high school.  They are taught by highly qualified teachers who align the curriculum with ASU-Beebe's high standards.

Cabot High School currently offers the following concurrent credit courses:

Freshman English I & II

College Algebra

Student Makenzie Horton loves the benefits that concurrent credit courses offer.  “Instead of taking AP and only having a chance at some college credit,” she says, “you could take concurrent and be guaranteed credit as long as you keep your grades up.”

Cabot High School teacher Jennifer Powers has been teaching concurrent credit Freshman English for seven years.  “Concurrent credit classes cost quite a bit less per hour than a traditional college class, often at least 50% less,” she says.  “The credits can be transferred to any college in Arkansas and will most likely transfer to out-of-state colleges.”

Cabot High School teacher Angela Beason agrees.  Mrs. Beason has been teaching concurrent credit College Algebra for fifteen years and says that one of its greatest advantages is the pacing.  “Because we meet every day, students are able to have more class time, ask more questions, and get more support.”

Student Romi Melancon sees yet another benefit: “This class allows me to step into the college world at a pace that I can handle.  It will help me in the future by letting me finish college earlier.”

Students who are interested in enrolling in concurrent credit courses for the 2018-2019 school year should contact the Cabot High School Counseling Center at 501-843-3562.
