2018 ASBA School Board of Leadership Award
Congratulations to the Cabot School Board for being honored with the 2018 Arkansas School Boards Association's, “School Board of Excellence in Leadership” Award.
This award recognizes school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the students in their district. Districts will be chosen based on evidence from each of the following eight (8) criteria:
• The board's support for educational performance
• Support for educational improvement projects
• Commitment to a code of ethics
• Maintenance of harmonious and supportive relationships among members of the board
• Functions as a policy-making body with adherence to adopted policies
• Provision of financial support for the school system
• Participation in workshops and other performance improvement programs
• Public relations efforts, including community awareness
The Cabot School Board was recognized at the ASBA's annual conference in December. Mr. Joe Trusty and Supt. Dr. Thurman accepted the award on the board's behalf. The Cabot School District is extremely proud of our Cabot School Board members. Congratulations on receiving this deserving recognition.
School-Based CPR Training Program
Cabot School Board President Sarah Owen and Director of Student Services Michael Byrd educated board members and those in attendance about a districtwide effort to save lives. The district has teamed up with the American Heart Association and Walk for Wheezy to train educators in CPR.
So far, 90-percent of certified employees have been trained. The goal is to eventually train all teachers, staff, and students in these lifesaving measures. That's more than 10,000 people by the 2019-2020 school year.
During the meeting, Mrs. Owen even trained board members on what to do if there is an emergency. Members experienced hands-on training and instruction and practiced on how to save a life.
