Westside Elementary Celebrates 40 Years

May 2, 2019

It was a great day as Westside Elementary celebrated a huge milestone on Thursday, April 25th. The school opened its doors back in 1979. Since then, Westside has become home to our International Program. Dozens of students from several different countries who speak many different languages attend the school.

Forty years later, former teachers and administrators gathered in the cafeteria to reminisce together. A video looking back throughout the years played for those in attendance, as well as special message from Superintendent Dr. Thurman.

During the birthday celebration, Westside also recognized two long-time retiring teachers. Senator Ricky Hill presented Ms. Debbie Kinder with a Senate Citation congratulating her on 39 years, along with a Senate coin.  Dr. Thurman presented his very own citation to Ms. Shelley Tucker to celebrate her 32 years. It included an autographed picture and a special coin!

Congratulations Westside Elementary on an amazing 40 years!
