CFA's First Ever Adulting Day
August 20, 2019
Teachers are not just teaching academics in the classroom but valuable life lessons. The Cabot Freshman Academy recently held its first ever “Adulting Day.”
Students had the opportunity to choose from a variety of topics including: how to tie a tie, how to change a flat tire, how to jump a car, sew a button, make a pot of coffee, wash and fold laundry, make breakfast, take care of a pet, and even pack a suitcase, just to name a few.
Students also had the chance to learn other valuable lessons such as learning the basics of investing, opening a checking/savings accounts, managing a checkbook, problem solving, organizing, keeping a calendar, and even community service.
Amber Pirnique is one of the Keystone teachers who helped organize the event. “Our job is not only to teach academics but help students with functional skills to survive in the real world.”
Students like Abe Owen stated his mom was excited about the event and eager to hear about all the new skills he learned. Student Katie Minge said “Adulting Day” was extremely beneficial. "It's going to help us as we grow and as we go off to college so we aren't lost in the world.”
