The AP Academy working for our Community

December 3, 2012

The AP Academy currently has 163 members. Meetings are held monthly during which student concerns are discussed, college and scholarship questions are addressed, and community service project reports are presented.  The AP Academy are working with school personnel, community leaders, organizations, and local businesses in an effort to ensure their community service projects are meaningful to students and meet the needs of our community.

AP Academy projects include:

  • Before school reading program at Eastside Elementary
  • Reading buddies with ELS students at Westside Elementary
  • Reading buddies with reading intervention students at Northside Elementary
  • Distribution of Children's books at Cabot Fest
  • Collection of over 2000 gently-used children's books for the CPS bookmobile
  • Distribution of approximately 600 gift wrapped gently-used Children's books to elementary schools for children in need at Christmas
  • Distribution of gently-used magazines to local senior centers
  • ACT after-school test prep sessions
  • Organizations of CHS Clothes Closet for students in need
  • Participation in Military Nights and Fall Festivals at elementary schools
  • Halloween candy check stations
  • Packing of Thanksgiving food boxes for children in need at Westside
  • CHS Food Drive for the Arkansas Food Bank
