11 National Merit Semi-Finalists

September 13, 2013

Cabot proudly announces that eleven students have been named National Merit Semi-Finalists! The state of Arkansas has 149 semi-finalists from 47 different schools this year. Cabot has the second highest number of semi-finalists in the state.

The vast majority of these eleven students have been a part of our school system since elementary school.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter this program by taking the Preliminary SAT and by achieving a particular score on the exam. This particular year in Arkansas the selection index was a score of 205 out of a possible 240. There are around 1.5 million students that participate in this exam every year. Of those students, about 16,000, or 1% of the total graduating seniors, have scores which qualify them as semi-finalists.

CHS is proud to announce the 2014 National Merit Semi-Finalists:
Anna Applegate, Matthew Bilberry, Benjamin Brannon, Robert Brockel, Kyle Cox, Mark Howard, Grant Reed, Hannah Simpson, Reid Simpson, Kegan Skinner, and Caleb Southard.

This is a great honor for these students, and we are extremely proud of them. These students will have the opportunity to be awarded thousands of dollars in potential scholarship awards by achieving the status of National Merit Semi-Finalists.
