Four CHS Athletes Sign With Arkansas Schools
April 20, 2017
Friends and family gathered at Cabot High School to watch four student athletes sign letters of intent with Arkansas schools to play sports at the college level.
Congratulations to Britton Alley (Track – ASU), Leelee Denton (Soccer – Lyon College), Hailey Gorecke (Track – Henderson State University), and Matt Stanley (Basketball – OBU).
Britton Alley, along with parents Jason/Lea Alley and Nikki Patterson, signed to run track for Arkansas State University! Britton plans to major in Business. He is excited about the training ASU has to offer and to perform at the collegiate level. When choosing a university, Britton said ASU felt like he belonged there and was already a part of the team. Howl Yes!
Britton was the 2016 State Champion in the 200m dash (22.20) and has set several school records so far this year: 200m dash, 400m dash, 60m dash and tied for the 55m dash. Britton is also a six time Meet of Champ participant.
Leelee Denton, alongside parents David & Freda, plans on playing soccer next fall at Lyon College. Leelee has been playing soccer since she was three years old and is looking forward to the opportunity to continue playing at college. While attending Lyon College, Leelee will study Biology and is excited for her future.
Hailey Gorecke, daughter of Jason & Amber, said I'm Reddie to attend Henderson State University to run track. Hailey has been running track since junior high and is very excited for this new challenge and experience. When looking at the school, she said Coach Joyner made her feel welcome and at home. While attending Henderson, Hailey will major in Nursing and is looking forward to their state of the art nursing program.
Our final signee for the day was Matt Stanley. Matt, along with parents Jim and Sandra and proud sisters, signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Ouachita Baptist University. Matt has been playing basketball since a very young age and looks forward to playing next fall at college. He will follow in his sisters footsteps by attending OBU and is looking forward to join one of his sisters who currently still attends there. Matt plans on majoring in Sports Management.
Matt was 2016 & 2017 7A Central All Conference and part of the 7A State All-Tournament Team. He was also the 2017 Central Arkansas All Star (AAC) 3-pt Shoot Out Champion, a member of 501 Magazine basketball team, and helped the Cabot Panthers win the 2016 State Boys Basketball Championship!
This week has been a great week for Cabot High School and our student athletes! Congratulations again Britton, Leelee, Hailey, and Matt!
