Technology Connects CHS Band & World Class Composer
May 1, 2017
Cabot High School Band members recently had the opportunity to learn from an amazing experience. Thanks to technology, students had the chance to interact, practice, and perform for a world class composer.
Brian Balmages lives in Baltimore and was commissioned to write a new piece of music in Mr. Joe Trusty's honor. The piece titled, “Trust In Angels,” will debut at the final CHS band concert on Tuesday, May 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. at Panther Arena.
To prepare for the big night, CHS Band members participated in a Google Hangout session with Mr. Balmages. They've been practicing the new piece for the past several weeks and this was the first chance they had to actually work with Mr. Balmages.
Dr. TJ Perry and Dr. Dan Belongia from Arkansas Tech University were also in attendance. Dr. Belongia was part of the Google Hangout session, while Dr. Perry was able to attend in person. Dr. Perry is the trumpet instructor at ATU and will perform the trumpet solo in the new piece with our CHS Band.
Mr. Trusty has been the Cabot High School Band Director for the last 30 years and will retire in June. Ten-thousand dollars was raised to commission, “Trust In Angels.”
