Cabot Principal Advocates For Public Education In Nation’s Capital

Westside Elementary Principal Sherri Jennings recently visited Washington D.C. to discuss education with lawmakers. Mrs. Jennings was one of seven Arkansas principals who made the trip as part of the annual Advocacy Conference, sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
Mrs. Jennings met with legislative aides of Representative Steve Womack, Bruce Westerman, and Senator John Boozman. They discussed issues including building partnerships between schools and community-based organizations that help students receive mental health services at school, providing increase federal funding for therapist and mental health services in schools, and recognizing best practices for the delivery of mental health care in school-based settings. The group also addressed boosting federal education funding and improving principal recruitment and preparation.
The Arkansas principals were among 180 school leaders from across the country who converged on Washington D.C., March 18-20 for the annual NASSP Advocacy Conference.
