October School Board Recognition

October 17, 2013

Many high school students were recognized at October's board meeting for their superior accomplishments.

CHS AP Scholars
The College Board offers AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.

Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on all AP score reports sent to colleges the following fall.

AP Scholars
The AP Scholar Award is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

AP Scholars with Honor
The AP Scholar with Honor Award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams.

AP Scholars with Distinction
The AP Scholar with Distinction award is granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

CHS National Merit Semifinalists
Out of the 1.5 million students who take the Preliminary Standardized Achievement Test (PSAT), approximately 16,000 students qualify as National Merit Semifinalists.  They are the highest scoring students for each state representing less than 1 percent of our nation's high school seniors.

Eleven of the 149 Arkansas high school seniors named as National Merit Semifinalists were from Cabot High School.

Future Farmers of America (FFA) Creed Award
FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Cabot High School student Nicole Williams won the FFA Creed Award at the state level and will compete at the national level.

CHS School Based Business
Students from Mrs. Moore's class at CHS recently started a school based business, K-9 Crackers, that produces and sells dog treats.  Operating the business is valuable since students learn the business of making dog snacks by measuring ingredients, cooking, advertising, and learning the value of making, saving and investing money.
