CHS Students Accepted to AR Girls and Boys State

April 11, 2017

The Cabot School District is proud to recognize the 21 students who have been accepted into the Girls and Boys State program.

Arkansas Boys and Girls State is an immersive program in civics education designed for high school juniors. Students are chosen based on leadership, character and honesty, academic achievement, scholarship, cooperativeness and community participation and service by a committee of teachers and American Legion and Legion Auxiliary representatives.

The local American Legion Post 71 and Legion Auxiliary, along with local businesses, sponsor these students. It is an honor to be chosen to attend this program, and the skills they learn will last a lifetime.

Girls and Boys State will be held May 28-June 2. Girls State is held at Harding University in Searcy and Boys State will be at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

At Girls and Boys State, delegates become knowledgeable in the democratic process and how our government works at the state and national levels. Each summer, a diverse group of students from around the state participate in this week-long program. They assume roles as government leaders, campaign for their party affiliation, and some will become elected officials at the city and state level. Delegates are given practical instruction on the duties and responsibilities of both citizens and their elected officials.

Congratulations to our Girls and Boys State delegates:
