December 2017 School Board Recognition

Robotics Presentation
Students from Eastside Elementary, Southside Elementary, Ward Central Elementary, Cabot Middle School South, and Cabot High School presented robotic demonstrations for our school board members.
Cabot School District's technology and curriculum departments have teamed up to provide robotics instruction for students in grades K-12. Our students begin learning about robotics in Kindergarten. This instruction takes place in technology lab, a class every student in grades K-6 attends. Students learn how robots run commands in sequence and how to interact with them using markers and Chromebooks.
The secondary schools offer robotics in makerspaces, clubs, and select classes. At the high school level the robotics are no longer pre-packaged. Students must design, assemble, and program from scratch.
In May, Governor Asa Hutchinson visited Cabot High School as part of his Computer Science Coding Tour where he spoke to 1,500 10th and 11th grade students. Last year, Cabot High School had one computer science class with 33 students. This year, CHS has nine classes and 167 students studying computer science.
Outstanding Board Member Award
Dr. Thurman also recognized Cabot School Board Vice President Sarah Owen for recieivng an Outstanding Board Member award from the Arkansas School Board Association. Board members who earn at least 25 hours of training are recognized as Outstanding Board members.
As we head into the new year, our students will be delving even more into the world of robotics and coding. Here is Alayna showing @DrTCabot and school board member Mrs. Nash her code-a-pillar. @EastsideCabot @csd_td pic.twitter.com/sIkOsSmIIA
