Where We Are: Cabot Public Schools Safety

February 27, 2018

In an effort to keep you informed, and especially in light of the tragedy at Parkland, Florida, we want to assure you that the Cabot School District is constantly monitoring our security efforts and working closely with officials on a continuing basis to strengthen our safety and security plan.

We understand the need for urgency and to expedite any necessary actions or changes, however, we must also make sure what we do is in the best interest of our students, staff, and faculty. We thank the Cabot Police Department, Ward Police Department, and Lonoke County Sheriff's Office for supporting our district since the Parkland incident with increased patrols at our campuses.

District administration has met with the Cabot school board members, Cabot city officials, Cabot police, Ward police, the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office, and retired law enforcement officers. We have also consulted with our district architect to review our facilities for recommendations on any possible security upgrades to our campuses.  We are using this valuable feedback to finalize recommendations to our school board members soon.

Our high school, freshman academy, and both of our junior high schools have full-time school resource officers, and all officers have received extensive active shooter training. The district also employs a full-time armed district security director. Five full-time security monitors also patrol the Cabot High School campus. Law enforcement has access and information regarding our school emergency protocols, and our schools participate in emergency drills, including lockdown drills.

Protecting our students and staff is our highest priority. Safety and security protocols are under constant review. We want our campuses to be welcoming to our community, but we must be vigilant when it comes to safety.  Keep in mind that there will be security enhancements that will be very visible to our public.  There will be others that may not be visible to patrons, but there is also a valuable purpose in not sharing every security measure.

We appreciate your efforts in monitoring your children and their friends' activities. If you see something, say something. Our Panther family supports one another and by working together, we can ensure our students' well-being and success.

Please remember the Panther Tip Line is available on our website to report any suspicious activity, bullying reports, and other matters that need immediate attention.
