Districtwide CPR Training For Staff & Students
December 19, 2018

Cabot Public Schools has teamed up with the American Heart Association and Walk for Wheezy to teach lifesaving skills to all our staff and students.
So far, 90-percent of our certified staff have been trained in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) at our schools. Eventually, the goal is to have all teachers and students in the district trained. That's more than 10,000 people!
During the 20 minute class, attendees are given hands-on training and instruction and practice on how to save a life. The training has already proven successful with one teacher recently performing CPR on a family member.
The push to make this available to everyone is the vision of Cabot School Board President Sarah Owen. Mrs. Owen's daughter Eloise (Wheezy) was born with a congenital heart defect and passed away nearly three years ago. In 2015 alone, Eloise required CPR on at least five occasions. Three of those times, Mrs. Owens was not with her daughter. Fortunately, someone with CPR skills was available to quickly provide care.
CPR training will continue through the summer and into the 2019-2020 school year. We would like to thank Mrs. Owen, Walk for Wheezy, and Kelly Lamb with the American Heart Association for partnering with the Cabot School District to provide this lifesaving training.
The Cabot School District is also encouraging faculty and staff to participate in the American Heart Association's District Heart Challenge! We want to inspire employees to get their blood pressure checked, be active, and learn how to keep our hearts healthy. On Friday, February 1st, National WEAR RED DAY, we will GO RED to support the mission of the American Heart Association – building healthier lives free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Southside 4th graders learned so much during their CPR session today and had FUN! So thankful for Ms. Lamb with the American Heart Association and Mrs. Eddington for teaching us these valuable tools that could save a life! #sspride pic.twitter.com/96EVQXQic2
