Cabot School Board Adopts Resolution Supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

June 17, 2020

Without question, 2020 has presented us with moments of adversity unlike anything we could have ever imagined. From navigating the challenges of a worldwide pandemic to the fight for racial justice and equality, this has been an extremely difficult year.

As a school district, we uphold the responsibility to not only prepare our students academically, but also teach them to treat others with dignity, appreciate diversity, develop empathy, and respect every human being regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or social class.

Rather than simply post statements on social media, we want to be thoughtful in how we discuss our challenges and develop a plan of action with our school leadership team.

At the June 16, 2020 school board meeting, the Cabot School Board adopted a resolution condemning discrimination in every form.  We are committed to creating learning environments where every child and staff member are respected and valued for who they are.

Included in the resolution is the creation of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to be comprised of students, staff, parents, and community members.  The initial expectation of this committee will be to bring forth both immediate and long-term recommendations to our administration and school board on how we can better ensure every student and adult is valued and respected.

Ultimately, we are a better community and school district because of our diversity and differences. Let us make sure Cabot Public Schools is a place where every person is safe, included, and appreciated. Please continue to be a source of love and positivity throughout these challenging days. We are stronger when we work together.
