Future Inventors are being born at Magness Creek Elementary

June 26, 2015

Dozens of kids are learning to create and solve problems. It's all part of a national summer program called Camp Invention and it's being held at Magness Creek Elementary.

For example, have you ever wished you had an ATM in front of you and you didn't have to pay any ATM fees? Landon may have the solution, a portable ATM machine. You just type in your passcode and magically the money comes out. Landon says he got the idea after his mom needed cash at the movie theater.

Landon's invention is just one of many that kids at Camp Invention have created. All week, students have been using their skills and imaginations to come up with inventions.

The theme for this year's Camp Invention is called “Illuminate.” The program is led by Mary Beth Trammell. Ms. Trammell is a gifted and talented teacher at Magness Creek Elementary.  She says she's always impressed with the inventions students design. Some of those inventions include a 3D printer, flying bird, robot and board game.

One student has even gone on national television for an invention she created at home. Brooke appeared on the Jimmy Fallon show back in April for her Tissue Time 3000 invention. She said she was crying on New Year's Eve because her parents wouldn't let her stay up so created a wearable tissue box so she didn't have to keep searching for tissues. That invention won her $5,000!

Camp ends Friday, June 26th but if you'd like more information for next year's camp, click HERE.

Camp Invention will be featured on KARK4, Monday, June29th at 5:00 p.m. as part of their Education Matters segment.
