11th Grade Literacy End of Level
The 11th grade literacy assessment is given to all students enrolled in the 11th grade. It is called “End of Level” instead of “End of Course” because the assessment is conducted according to the grade level not a specific course enrollment. Students are given the test early in the spring. It is a criterion reference test based on specific student learning expectations (SLEs) found in the state frameworks for 11th grade English. Therefore, it is expected that every concept has been taught by the teacher and the student has learned the skill.
Each assessment contains only the SLEs for that specific course. The scoring is the traditional Below Basic (BB), Basic (B), Proficient (P) or Advanced (A). If a student scores Proficient or Advanced, credit is automatically posted to the transcripts. If a student scores Basic or Below Basic, the student must complete the district’s remediation program described in the student’s AIP. Upon completion of the AIP, credit for the course will be posted to the student’s transcripts. The End of Level 11th grade Literacy Assessment must be completed and credit posted to the transcript in order to graduate from an Arkansas high school. The End of Level Literacy assessment is part of the school and district’s AYP and is reported to the public. Questions regarding the literacy assessment can be directed to the school counselors.
Special Education: The grade 11 Literacy Benchmark portfolio will substitute for the end of level 11th grade Literacy test.
