CPS Celebrates Military Students 2021
April 30, 2021
Imagine attending six to nine different school systems from kindergarten to 12th grade. It's a reality for many military children.
April is the Month of the Military Child and for the past month, the Cabot School District has been celebrating and honoring the sacrifices and service of our military students and their families.
Approximately 1,000 military children are enrolled in our schools. We are committed to serving students of our military heroes and supporting them both emotionally and academically.
In fact, the Cabot School District is proud to be designated the first Purple Star School District in the state by the Arkansas State Council of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission for our commitment to supporting and serving military children and their families.
The district has two dedicated Military Liaisons, Director of Student Services Michael Byrd and Director of Counseling Terena Woodruff, to provide any necessary support for our military families. Our school counselors also serve as point of contact for our military families. They have been trained to specifically assist families in any situation military students may face including, constant relocation, enrollment, eligibility, graduation requirements, to dealing with a deployed parent.
Throughout the month of April, our schools have been celebrating military children and their families; this includes participating in Purple Up! Day. The Arkansas Department of Education designated Friday, April 16th, as Purple Up! Day, and encouraged everyone to wear purple to show support for military families.
Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue. We hope everyone will take this opportunity to appreciate and celebrate these young heroes and make it possible for military kids to visually witness the support of their community.
The Cabot School District would like to thank our military children and their families for their bravery, strength, and sacrifices.
