CHS Athletic Trainer Travels to Honduras
July 22, 2015
A Cabot High School athletic trainer recently traveled nearly 1,500 miles to talk sports medicine and make a difference. Lyndsey Rich is an assistant athletic trainer and sports medicine teacher.
Just a few weeks ago, she volunteered to go with the Christian Sports Medicine Alliance to Honduras for a life changing experience.
Lyndsey says she had the opportunity to work with three different universities and give talks on sports medicine topics. They also spoke to the Olympic committee of Honduras, looked over their practices and showed them ways they could improve their skills. Lyndsey says they even worked with national and Olympic athletes and talked to them about preventing injuries, nutrition and proper warm-up. They also visited with the Honduran Army and did evaluations on some of the men as well.
Lyndsey says it was amazing to take what she teaches in the classroom at Cabot High School every day to people in another country. She says she was shocked that some of the trainers she spoke to in Honduras didn't even know what a concussion was or how to treat it. She even did an evaluation on a person with a broken leg that hadn't been treated in a month. Lyndsey says the trip was an eye opening experience and would love to go back one day.
