Westside Elementary 2023 National Blue Ribbon School Celebration
December 8, 2023
The Cabot School District is proud to celebrate the students and staff of Westside Elementary for being named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. To commemorate this outstanding achievement, the district organized a grand celebration at Panther Arena on Thursday, December 7th.
Westside Elementary was nominated for the National Blue Ribbon School award by the state's top education officials, and stood out as one of only three schools in Arkansas to receive this prestigious recognition. Nationally, Westside was among an elite group of 353 institutions to be named 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors schools that demonstrate high levels of academic excellence or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among student groups on assessments.
Recently, Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman, Principal Frankie Glover, and Math Interventionist Julia Ray proudly represented Westside Elementary in Washington D.C. at the National Blue Ribbon Conference where they had the honor of receiving the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School award and flag.
Cabot School Board President Sarah Owen officially presented these accolades to Principal Glover at the celebration in front of students, staff, Cabot School Board members, lawmakers, district and city leaders, and the media.
Students and staff also had the opportunity to play games and win their own blue ribbon! CHS Cheer performed and welcomed guests. Representatives from Blue Bell also announced they would be throwing Westside an ice cream party as soon as they returned to school!
Also, a special congratulations to our Media Production Specialist Morgan Linton. His photo was featured in the National Blue Ribbon Schools pamphlet.
Thank you again to everyone for making this celebration so special for Westside Elementary, our FIRST National Blue Ribbon School!
