Important Update: Arkansas 3rd Grade Reading Requirement Starting 2025-26
October 13, 2025
At Cabot Public Schools, our goal is for every student to become a confident, successful reader. As part of the Arkansas LEARNS Act, third-grade students are now required to meet a minimum reading standard to be promoted to fourth grade.
Our teachers and staff are trained to provide high-quality reading instruction and targeted support to meet each student’s individual needs, and there are multiple pathways and resources available for students who may need additional time or help. In addition, the LEARNS Act allows for certain exemptions when appropriate.
We are committed to partnering with you and your child every step of the way, as families play an important role in their student’s reading journey. Reading together for just 20 minutes a day and talking about the story will help strengthen your child’s comprehension and confidence. Your child’s teacher can also give student-specific strategies to work on at home.
You can view your child’s state assessment results through the ATLAS Parent Portal. The latest scores will be available soon. If you don’t already have your access code, an email will be sent on Wednesday, Oct. 15th, with instructions on how to log in. Assistance will also be available during Parent-Teacher Conferences, or you may email Pam.Waymack@cps.k12.ar.us. To learn more, visit this FAQ page for help logging in and understanding your child’s results. For more information on 3rd Grade Promotion, visit the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education website.
Thank you for partnering with us to help every child grow as a reader. Together, we’re building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
