FA Student Attempts to Qualify for U.S. Open

May 12, 2016

One of our outstanding Cabot Freshman Academy students established incredible goals for himself and reached for his dreams this week at the U.S. Open qualifier at Hot Springs Country Club.

Connor Gaunt started playing golf from birth and has been dragging around his Titleist driver ever since.  He currently has a 0.7 handicap and is on the Cabot High School golf team.  Connor was the only High School student to attempt to qualify for the U.S. Open Tuesday.  As a matter of fact, he was the youngest player in attendance by five or six years.

Connor had quite the round and finished 3 over par with a 75.  The highlight of his round was sinking a nail-biting 40 foot putt on the 16th hole.  The spectators went crazy.

Connor also went on to beat a member of the LSU golf team.  It is very apparent that Connor is headed for bigger fairways and more colorful greens in his future.  He is not only an outstanding golfer, Connor also maintains over a 3.5 GPA while taking a challenging course load.

One of the most famous golfers of all time, Jack Nicklaus once stated the following, "Confidence is the most important single factor in this game, and no matter how great your natural talent, there is only one way to obtain and sustain it: work."  We are proud to say, that Connor is putting the work in now so that he may continue to drag his Titleist driver around many tee boxes in the future.
