Cabot Students Buy Books for Baton Rouge Schools
September 26, 2016
Southside Elementary's book fair started off with a bang! Last week, classes competed in a change drive. In the past, the class that brought in the most change got to spend the total amount of money collected for classroom books.
This year, the media specialists at Southside Elementary, Eastside Elementary, and Magness Creek Elementary chose to change that tradition. The winning class spent half the money on books for their classroom. The students then used the other half of the coin drive collection to purchase books for Louisiana. Many schools were recently flooded in Baton Rouge, and several libraries lost everything.
Southside raised more than $450. Mrs. Hitchcock's first grade class collected $107 themselves and was given the opportunity to choose what books to buy for Baton Rouge.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the collection drive.
