Ward Central Students Say “Thanks for the Shade

October 13, 2016

Ward Central Elementary students had the opportunity to plant trees on their playground thanks to the Arkansas Forestry Commission.  It's all part of the S.T.O.P. program or Shade Trees on Playgrounds.

The goal is to help schools across the state provide a healthier and more inspirational setting by planting trees on the playground and to stop the risk of skin cancer in children.

During the week leading up to this event, the students learned about the importance of the trees. Ward Central received five maple and oak trees. Each grade level named their class tree and had the chance to help plant them with the help of the forestry commission.

Thank you to the Arkansas Forestry Commission for planting the trees at Ward Central Elementary. “Thanks for the Shade!”

Also, thank you to School Board President Brian Evans and Board Member Sarah Owen for attending the tree planting ceremony.
