Museum of American History Opening
September 5, 2012
The Cabot Public Schools Museum of American History will officially open with regular public hours beginning September 7. The museum is located at 114 South First Street, which is next door to the Cabot Health Unit.
A ribbon cutting will be held Friday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate the opening, and everyone is welcome to attend.
The museum will be open to the public every Friday and Saturday (with exception of holidays) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Group tours can be scheduled on other days by calling (501) 743-3577.
The museum was established in 1981 and the opening of the new location provides the public a chance to view the growing collection of over 5,000 artifacts that chronicle the history of the United States.
“The award winning Museum of American History is home to a large collection of documents and artifacts associated with the history of Cabot, Arkansas and the United States. Exhibits currently on display include presidential campaigns, military and Cabot Schools artifacts, among others,” says Mike Polston, Director of Museum of American History and Cabot Public Schools teacher.
Museum admission is free, and there is a donation only activity fund set up at Cabot School District that covers monthly operational expenses. The Cabot Advertising and Promotion Commission provided funds to enable regular hours of operation to the public.
