District Receives AWF’s Conservation Organization of the Year Award

August 15, 2017

The Cabot School District is honored to receive the Arkansas Wildlife Federation Conservation Organization of the Year Award!

Johnny Carrol Sain, Interim Executive Director of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation states, "The teachers of the Cabot School District show a tremendous passion to find opportunities that ensure experiences beyond the classroom and are to be commended for their dedication to bringing wildlife conservation to the head of the class."

Five schools in Cabot submitted a total of 72 student artworks this year for the 2017 Wildlife of Arkansas Student Art Contest. Sain says each year, the Cabot School District students maintain a strong presence in the art contest sponsored by AWF affiliate, Creative Ideas, and Arkansas Wildlife Federation.

On Saturday, August 12th, CJHN Art Teacher Katherine Karkkainen, Southside Elementary and Northside Elementary Art Teacher Melissa Lashbrook, and Freshman Academy Art Teacher Shannon Wiggins accepted the award at the AWF's Governor's Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet. The banquet was held in the James “Jitters” Morgan White Hall Community Center.

On behalf of the Cabot School District, we'd like to thank our dedicated and hardworking art teachers who truly make a difference in the lives of our students. We know your committment greatly contributed to us being honored with this award. Also, a big thank you to the Arkansas Wildlife Federation for recognizing the Cabot School District!
