August 2017 School Board Recognition

August 18, 2017

The first school board meeting of the new school year kicked off with some amazing news!

Cabot Church of Christ has once again donated $10,000 to the district's Backpack for Kids program. Actually, make that $10,001! A student that attends Cabot Church of Christ wanted to put the donation over the $10,000 mark and did it by donating $1.

The Backpack for Kids program started more than ten years. Becky and Chester Brown were both teachers in the Cabot School District and felt a calling to give back and help students in need. They took their cause to the congregation and church members have been donating ever since. So far, they've donated about $90,000 in all to the Cabot School District.

Last year, Roger and Jessica Tonnessen took over the Backpack for Kids program at the church. Mr. Tonnessen is the Director of Transportation and Mrs. Tonnessen is a elementary special education teacher for the Cabot School District. They have four children in Cabot schools. Cory Spruiell, Outreach Minister at Cabot Church of Christ also attended the board meeting to present the donation.

On behalf of the Cabot School District, thank you Roger and Jessica Tonnessen and the Cabot Church of Christ for continuing to support our kids.
