Important Changes Coming To School Board Elections
September 26, 2017
Important changes are coming to Arkansas school board elections beginning in 2018.
Normally, school board elections across the state are held the third Tuesday in September. However, Act 910 of 2017, passed by Arkansas legislators earlier this year, changes the date of school elections.
Effective January 1, 2018, school board elections are required to be held at the same time as general or primary elections or on the equivalent dates in non-election years. Each school district must also notify its respective county clerk if it will choose to hold its annual school board elections on the primary or general election date.
As required by the new law, the Cabot School Board decided to move our school board elections to the preferential primary election in May. The Cabot School District wants to make sure voters are informed of the new changes. This most recent school board election was the last one to be held in September.
The next Cabot School Board election will be held in May of 2018, and will continue to be held in May every year.
