Double Bus Routes?

August 16, 2018

The Cabot School District is in immediate need of additional school bus drivers. Our Transportation Department handles more than 90 routes, transports close to 5,500 students, and covers 4,800 miles every day.

We've been asked about the early pick-up and late drop-off times for buses that are running routes that are relatively close to schools.

We are currently running double routes because we do not have available drivers to provide individual routes. In the case of morning routes, we complete a route that picks up students and takes them to set schools. That same bus then runs the route again and picks up students for transport to other schools. In the case of afternoon routes, this means students have to wait at school while their driver finishes their first route before coming back to pick up other students for the second run.

We choose routes to double that are relatively close to schools so that we can minimize the amount of time between trips. Also, the two routes can usually be completed faster than one of out of town route.

We would prefer to not have double routes, but we need additional bus drivers to help alleviate this challenge. We have buses ready and waiting to go for new drivers!

There are many benefits to being a Cabot school bus driver. Starting route pay is nearly $10,500 a year! The district will also provide training to get you ready to pass the driving test. You can also earn extra money driving trips; you can be home when your kids are home, increase your retirement income, and students of contracted employees are able to attend Cabot Schools.
