CPS Adjusts Friday Schedules

Message from Supt. Dr. Thurman:

First, I would like to thank each and everyone of you…our parents, students, faculty, and staff for your patience, understanding, hard work, and resiliency.  

I am extremely proud of our district. You have handled a school year like no other with grace and for that I am grateful, but I fully understand that it has not been easy for anyone.  

I hear from teachers and parents every day. We know it has been challenging and school has only been in session for a month. To help ease stress and allow for more flexibility, Cabot Public Schools is announcing a new schedule change that we feel will be beneficial for everyone. 

Friday, September 25th:

• This Friday, September 25th, will be a blended learning day from 8:00 a.m.-3:20 p.m. 

• This means students have the option to stay home and work on assignments in Google Classroom on their Chromebooks. 

• Students who choose to work from home WILL NOT be counted absent.

• If you prefer for your student to attend school traditionally in the classroom just like they have been, on-site instruction will be available. 

Friday, October 2nd & Every Friday Through Remainder of Semester: 

• Beginning Friday, October 2nd, the district's on-site instruction will end at 1:00 p.m. every Friday through the remainder of the semester. 

• We want to make it extremely clear, we WILL provide on-site instruction from 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. every Friday, however the remainder of the day will pivot to blended assignments that will be completed from home.  
  
  UPDATE: Friday Flex-Day Enrichment Opportunity - We understand the new Friday schedule change has presented a challenge for some and we hope this new option will help accommodate our Panther families. Click on the link for more information on an enrichment opportunity that will take place at each campus from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. 

• Students who choose to complete Friday assignments from home using our blended instruction model WILL NOT be counted as absent as long as assignments are completed.  

*Cabot Panther Digital Academy students will remain on the schedule set by their CPDA teacher.  

*On blended learning Fridays, the Cabot Pre K program will continue normal hours of operation (unless a Pre K student is a bus rider). Starting Oct. 2nd and every Friday, for the remainder of the semester, bus riders will be dismissed at 1:00 p.m. 

Recap:

*Friday, September 25th is a blended learning day from 8:00 a.m.-3:20 p.m. It is your decision on whether or not your student comes to school or completes assignments from home. 

*Then, beginning October 2nd, the district will close at 1:00 p.m. every Friday. Again, your student can choose to work from home or come to school with the understanding that the district will dismiss on-site instruction at 1:00 p.m. 

The flexible schedule will allow our custodial team needed time to deep clean areas without students in attendance. Also, it's very common to be challenged securing substitute teachers on Fridays as has already been the case, and we believe that this schedule will better allow our administrators to effectively staff our schools based on the number of students in attendance.  

Finally and most important, this plan will give our teachers who are currently teaching on-site, digital, and blended learning students' that have placed on quarantine much needed time to prepare, plan, and subsequently provide quality instruction for every student.

CPS ajusta los horarios de los viernes

Primero, me gustaría agradecer a todos y cada uno de ustedes ... nuestros padres, estudiantes, profesores y personal por su paciencia, comprensión, trabajo arduo y resistencia.

Estoy muy orgulloso de nuestro distrito. Has manejado un año escolar como ningún otro con gracia y por eso estoy agradecido, pero entiendo perfectamente que no ha sido fácil para nadie.

Escucho de maestros y padres todos los días. Sabemos que ha sido un desafío y que la escuela solo ha estado en sesión durante un mes. Para ayudar a aliviar el estrés y permitir más flexibilidad, las Escuelas Públicas de Cabot están anunciando un nuevo cambio de horario que creemos será beneficioso para todos.

Viernes 25 de septiembre:

• Este viernes 25 de septiembre será un día de aprendizaje mixto de 8:00 a.m. a 3: 20 p.m.

• Esto significa que los estudiantes tienen la opción de quedarse en casa y trabajar en las tareas en Google Classroom en sus Chromebooks.

• Los estudiantes que elijan trabajar desde casa NO se contarán como ausentes.

• Si prefiere que su estudiante asista a la escuela tradicionalmente en el salón de clases tal como lo ha hecho, habrá disponible instrucción en el lugar.

Viernes 2 de octubre y todos los viernes hasta el resto del semestre:

• A partir del viernes 2 de octubre, la instrucción en el sitio del distrito terminará a la 1:00 p.m. todos los viernes durante el resto del semestre.

• Queremos dejarlo muy claro, proporcionaremos instrucción en el sitio de 8:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m. todos los viernes, sin embargo, el resto del día se centrará en tareas combinadas que se completarán desde casa.
  
  ACTUALIZACIÓN: Oportunidad de enriquecimiento del día flexible del viernes: entendemos que el nuevo cambio de horario del viernes ha presentado un desafío para algunos y esperamos que esta nueva opción ayude a acomodar a nuestras familias Panther. *Los estudiantes de Cabot Panther Digital Academy permanecerán en el horario establecido por su maestro de CPDA.

*Los viernes de aprendizaje combinado, el programa Cabot Pre K continuará con el horario normal de funcionamiento (a menos que un estudiante de Pre K viaje en autobús). A partir del 2 de octubre y todos los viernes, durante el resto del semestre, los pasajeros de autobús saldrán a la 1:00 p.m.

El horario flexible permitirá a nuestro equipo de conserjes el tiempo necesario para limpiar profundamente las áreas sin la asistencia de los estudiantes. Además, es muy común tener el desafío de conseguir maestros sustitutos los viernes como ya ha sido el caso, y creemos que este horario permitirá que nuestros administradores proporcionen personal a nuestras escuelas de manera efectiva en función del número de estudiantes que asistan.

Finalmente, y lo más importante, este plan brindará a nuestros maestros que actualmente están enseñando en el lugar, a los estudiantes digitales y de aprendizaje mixto que han puesto en cuarentena el tiempo que tanto necesitan para preparar, planificar y, posteriormente, brindar instrucción de calidad para cada estudiante.
