Ark Governor's Distinguished Scholarship Recipients

May 3, 2013

The Cabot Public School district is proud to recognize the following graduating seniors from CHS that received the Arkansas Governor's Distinguished Scholarship:

Ty Schultz, Collin Shaddox, Matt Calhoun, Kyle Edgar, Jacob Mayfield, Keri Haralson, Zayne Derden, Rebecca Davis, Alison Kaseburg, Hayden Elliott, Celina Miranda, and Clay Killingsworth.

To qualify, students must achieve a score of 32 or higher on the ACT or 1410 combined math and critical reasoning score on a single SAT AND a 3.5 GPA, OR be selected as a National Achievement Finalist or National Merit Finalist, as well as demonstrate leadership qualities and be ranked among classmates. Upon qualification, students are awarded up to $10,000 annually to attend the college or university of choice within the state.

The Governor's Scholars program was established by the state legislature to encourage Arkansas' top students to remain in-state for their collegiate education. As Shane Broadway, the interim director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education, stated recently “We know that Arkansans who stay in-state for post-secondary education are more likely to enter our workforce and contribute to the economy.” A total of 390 students from the state qualified for this award, and 300 were named recipients. CPS is proud that 10 of those 300 are products of our system. These 12 students have shown themselves to be exemplary in their work ethics, talents, and attitudes, and will represent Cabot well in the years to come.
