Sleeves Up for Barrett Stark

January 29, 2015

Jan. 29th, 2015

A Cabot Junior High North football player battling leukemia is being honored in a new Red Cross campaign.

Barrett Stark was diagnosed with leukemia back in April. Since then he's undergone many treatments including chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants.

The American Red Cross recently launched a unique way to help save lives through blood and platelet donation with a new website.

SleevesUp is a first-of-its-kind website that lets supporters host virtual blood drives. Its goal is to encourage friends, family and co-workers to give blood or platelets or make a financial donation to support their campaign.

One of the first SleevesUp drives in the nation is in honor of Barrett. Barrett's mom, Polly Pettey, is encouraging everyone in Arkansas to get involved.

Principal of Cabot Junior High North, Michal Bryd says, “When Barrett has had the opportunity to visit the school this year, he always has a smile on his face. It is inspiring to see his strength! I am excited for him to come back to school full time soon.”

Barrett is a member of the Cabot Junior High North football team. Coach Danny Spencer says, “This young man has a great work ethic & determination and that's one of many things that will help him beat this illness. He is a very courageous & wonderful young man. I look forward to seeing him rejoin our team & his JHN family.”
