CHS Swim Team Competes In State Meet

On Saturday the Cabot High School swim team had a very successful state meet at UALR.

The girls team, consisting of eight girls, finished third overall in the 7-6A division state behind Conway with 194 points. The boys team, consisting of six boys, finished 11th with 84 points.

The meet started out with a 1st place 7-6A finish for the Girls 200 IM Relay with a 2.49 second time drop and a new Cabot High School team record of 1:54.92, those relay members/ record holders are: Jessie Baldwin (Jr), Riley Young (Sr), Melanie Abbott (Fr) and Caytee Wright (Jr).  

The girls 200 Free Relay had a 3rd place finish in 7-6A with a 2.43 second time drop and a new CHS team record of 1:43.22, those relay members/record holders are Jessie Baldwin, Katie Frederick (Sr), Riley Young, and Caytee Wright.

Individual swimmer awards were also a big part of the girls team success. Three Juniors scored individual medals:

  • Jessie Baldwin scored two individual medals with a pair of 3rd place finishes in the 100 Backstroke and 100 Breaststroke. Baldwin broke the CHS team records in both swims.

  • Haylee Beckley scored two individual medals as well, with a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM and a 4th place finish in the 500 Freestyle. Beckley broke the CHS team record with a 5:24.71.

  • Caytee Wright also scored two individual medals with two second place finishes in the 50 freestyle 24.56  and the 100 freestyle 53.34. Wright broke team records with both swims.

Individual swimmer awards for the boys team:

  • Payton Jones finished 5th in the 100 Backstroke finishing with a time of 55.46 and a 5th place finish in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:50.04. Jones broke the school record in both of these swims.
