Cabot Students Compete in SkillsUSA

July 6, 2015

Cabot High School students recently returned from Louisville, Kentucky after taking part in the 51st annual National Leadership and Skills Conference. The conference was held June 22-26 and showcases career and technical education students.

More than 16,000 people, including students, teachers and business partners were expected to participate in the weeklong event.

In order to compete in the SkillsUSA Championships, participants had to be state contest winners. More than 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students competed hands-on in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields.

Our very own, Chuck Massey (Broadcasting), sang the National Anthem at the opening ceremony of Skills USA.

Three of our teachers, Tim Seay (Criminal Justice), Sarah Hyden (Health Science) and Bill McReynolds (Auto Tech) along with four students, Chase Evans, Jacob Tucker, Anika Schluter and Stevie Price also traveled to Louisville for the conference.

Chase Evans competed in Criminal Justice which included traffic stop, interview, written exam and two calls for service. He placed 20th out of 35 competitors.

Jacob Tucker competed in Motorcycle Service Technology and placed 11th in the nation.

Anika Schluter competed in Health Occupation Portfolio and placed 13th in the competition.

Stevie Price was elected the Arkansas President for SkillsUSA.

Along with competing in the conference, the group also had a chance to tour downtown Louisville, visit the Louisville Slugger Museum and they watched a horse race at Churchill Downs.

Congratulations to our teachers and students! We are very proud of your hard work!
