Take Your Legislator To School Month 2016
September 26, 2016

The Cabot School District welcomed three important guests for "Take Your Legislator to School Month."
Representative Joe Farrer, Representative Tim Lemons, and Senator Eddie Joe Williams recently toured several schools, including the Academic Center of Excellence (ACE), Alternative Learning Environment (ALE), Ward Central Elementary, and the Cabot Learning Academy (CLA).
The visit began at ACE/ALE where legislators had a chance to hear from students about how the program is helping them graduate. ACE is a conversion charter school and provides new opportunities and alternatives to the traditional academic approach.
Lawmakers heard from Rachel who is a mother and wife. She is also expecting her second child. They also heard from Dillon who spends his afternoon working with his father to provide for their family. All the students told lawmakers they probably wouldn't have the opportunity to graduate if it wasn't for ACE. Students then took everyone on a tour of the facilities.
Next, the group headed to Ward Central Elementary where lawmakers had the opportunity to visit a 4th grade class and the technology lab. They also learned about the district's Pre-K program. The Cabot School District has one of the largest Pre-K programs in the state. We have close to 340 students. Three of the 17 classes are housed at Ward Central Elementary.
Our lawmakers then traveled to the Cabot Learning Academy. They visited with staff and students to see how this school is also helping our kids succeed.
“Take Your Legislator to School Month,” is a great opportunity to continue building relationships between our school community and local legislators who make decisions about schools on our behalf. It was another great visit and we sincerely appreciate Representative Joe Farrer, Representative Tim Lemons, and Senator Eddie Joe Williams for spending their morning at the Cabot School District.
