Cabot Students Pledge to Spread the Word to End the Word 2017

March 1, 2017

Hundreds of Cabot students pledged to Spread the Word to End the Word.

Cabot High School and Cabot Junior High North students held an event during both lunches Wednesday. Students, teachers, staff, and administrators had the opportunity to sign the pledge to stop using the R-word (retard, retarded).

This is the fourth year for CHS to host the event and the first year for CJHN. CJHN coordinator seventh grader Tori Kiser said, “I want everyone to join me in taking a stand to raise awareness of the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the R-word. The language we choose affects everyone around us. Help me build communities of inclusion by pledging to end your use of the R-word, and then Spread the Word to End the Word to your friends.”

Tori's brother Trea Kiser graduated from Cabot High School last year. He's a huge advocate for inclusion of all students and helped bring the Spread the Word to End the Word event to CHS. He came back to his former high school Wednesday to help with this year's event.

Over 500,000 people have pledged their support online since the campaign launched in 2009.

For more information, visit www.r-word.org and take the pledge.
