All-Region/All-State Band 2017-2018

Our Cabot High School Band members are talented and outstanding musicians and dozens qualified for All-Region and All-State Band.

Students prepare exercises, scales, and play a piece of music they have never seen before for the tryouts. The auditions are all done blind where the judges are behind a screen and know the student as only an ID number. Tryouts consist of both concert band and jazz band.

Competition starts in the Region Level. Our Cabot High School Band is in Region IV of nine in the state. At Region Level they compete with 600 other students for placement in two bands. Of the 600 only 250 make the two All-Region Bands.  

Cabot High School Band members qualified for 117 of the 250 positions. Each of the nine regions sends a percent of the All-Region Band students to audition at All-State.  

Fifty-four Cabot students auditioned for All-State this year on February 3rd, with a total of 963 students from around the state. Seventeen students qualified for the top individual honor of an All-State Musician.  Along with this top honor, Grace Davis made 2nd chair in the state on oboe and performed with a select group in the All-State Chamber Orchestra.  

Cabot High School had 14 students qualify for the All-Region Jazz Bands. 

The students that audition and are selected to these groups work very hard independently on their instrument, and many of them take private lessons.  Cabot High School would never have as many students make these groups if it was not for the excellent start our students get from great teachers at the Junior High and Freshman Academy.  

Students selected for All-Region are often recruited to audition for college scholarships to play in band. The students selected for All-State are also pursued to attend colleges and universities to play in band. These students are offered a great amount of money even when they do not major in music.
