ELDA (English Language Developmental Assessment)
ELDA is a federally-mandated English proficiency test given each spring. Students identified as Limited English Proficiency (LEP) are required to take the test. ELDA had the following domains: listening, speaking, reading, writing and comprehension. The assessment is based on a five point scale. When a student achieves the five, they are not required to test again.
Parents receive a student report in the fall that contains the scores and information on how to interpret the scores. The ELDA assessment helps to identify the student’s level of English proficiency, to show progress and to determine when the student is ready to “exit” the program. ELDA is not part of the school or district’s AYP and is not reported to the public. Questions regarding the ELDA can be directed to Karyna Carbone at Westside Elementary School.
